Maths Workout Week is back and running from the 7th - 11th October, and there are lots of ways that unions can get involved to make maths skills count at work.

Everyone benefits from good maths skills, people encounter numbers every day and everywhere, and having a good understanding of maths also builds confidence and good mental health.

Maths Workout Week is unionlearn’s annual celebration of everyday maths and a nudge to everyone to have a go at brushing up their skills.

There are lots of ways that union learning reps can get involved:

* Organise a maths day, have a stall with quizzes and competitions

* If you cannot get face to face with everyone in the workplace challenge your colleagues to taking up one of the online assessments. Your union may offer one or use SkillCheck or take the Numeracy Challenge.

* Celebrate success, take a photo and tweet using #mathsworkout tagging @unionlearn

* Share experience in the unions’ English, maths and digital skills network meeting on 10th October 

* Blog for us! We are looking for 400-500-word blogs to publish during the Maths Workout Week on how maths is used in everyday life whether at home or work.

During the Maths Workout Week we’ll be launching a new SkillCheck quiz on financial capability. Managing your everyday finances is more effective when you’re confident with your everyday maths skills.

We’re also partnering with National Numeracy to kick off an exciting and fun competition where best maths improvers enter a prize draw.

This is the fourth year of Maths Workout Week and we’re seeing more and more workplaces joining the fun and making maths less scary. We’re looking forward to all the good stories a bit of maths confidence brings.”
